Workshop Leaders

Dr. Darla Deardorff

Dr. Darla K. Deardorff is an internationally recognized expert in intercultural competence, global education, and internationalization of higher education. She is the chairholder of the UNESCO Chair on Intercultural Competence at Stellenbosch University in South Africa, and in addition, she is a research scholar at Duke University and holds several other faculty appointments at universities around the world including in Japan, China, and Canada. She teaches through HarvardUniversity and has taught at Harvard’s Global Education Think Tank and Future of Learning Institute and previously served 19 years as executive director of the Association of International Education Administrators, a leadership organization. She specialises in intercultural competence and training, intercultural assessment and evaluation, teacher/faculty preparation/development, curriculum internationalisation and global leadership and is regularly invited to speak around the world on these topics. In addition, she consults with organisations such as OECD, UNESCO, World Bank and International Baccalaureate Organization, among others. Founding president of the World Council in Global and Intercultural Competence, she is author/editor of 14 books and 80+ book chapters and articles. She holds a masters and doctorate from North Carolina State University and can be reached on LinkedIn.

Erika Lahka

Erika Lahka is a policy expert with a strong background in internationalization strategies and public administration. With extensive experience in Higher Education, cross-borded cooperation, EU-funded projects, and regional development, she bridges institutional policy with global perspectives to foster sustainable growth and Innovation. As Internationalization Project Manager and International Student Recruitment Manager at Czech Technical University in Prague she lead strategic innitiatives including implementation of the university’s internationalization strategy, Alumni strategy, coordination of national development projects (teamwork focused on Ukrainian universities), and promotion of international student recruitment and services through CTU channels as well as university consortium Study in Prague. She has represented Czech Higher Education at global conferences as a speaker, such as QS Higher Ed Summit, Dubai EXPO 2020 and contributed to international development through policy-driven projects and academic diplomacy. Her previous work in Turkey and at Turkish universities reflects her deep engagement in cross-border cooperation, especially within EURAS university network engaging international partners.

Dr. Eva Janebova

Eva Janebová, Ph.D. serves as founding CEO at MIIC. In her 20+ years working in higher and international education, Eva has focused on development of academics, curriculum design and quality assurance, and has served as academic advisor to the Council for International Education Exchange and the Czech Ministry of Education. She has led a transatlantic project called Supporting Academics to Become International Educators through Professional Learning Communities of 7 universities, and serves on the International Education Advisory Board of Morgan State University. Her qualifications and experience were gained from Charles University, Columbia University, and the University of Minnesota where she was the very first Mestenhauser Fellow in 2018. Her most recent academic work includes a Guide for Quality Syllabus Design (under review), ‘Mapping the Dimensions of Inclusive Internationalization’ (with Christopher Johnstone) in Inequalities in Study Abroad, and is the author of The Challenge of Culture’ in Mestenhauser and the Possibilities of International Education both from Routledge as well and co-author of one of ACA Think Piece on Inclusive Internationalisation (2022).
